Based in central London David Wilson Fine Art offers expertise on all aspects of the acquisition and disposal of beautiful and historically important works of art to private collectors, museums, corporations, interior designers and others, both in the United Kingdom and internationally. Combining many years’ experience by David Wilson in handling fine art with a first-rate eye for quality, and rigorous scholarship on provenance and historical context, the firm specializes in European sculpture, paintings and drawings from the 16th to the 20th centuries, as well as decorative objects, including fine porcelain.
In addition David Wilson Fine Art offers a range of associated services, including the selling of works of art on consignment; advising on the development of collections; the sourcing of fine art and decorative objects – whether they be single works of art or multiple objects for large scale decorative projects; and providing valuations for institutional acquisitions and insurance or probate purposes. The principal of the firm is Dr David Wilson FSA. By way of significant loans or sales of works of art of pre-eminent status, David has enabled major museums of international stature to develop or enhance their collections. Most recently he sold the important 18th-century marble bust of Thomas Hollis by Joseph Wilton RA to the National Portrait Gallery, London (see below). As a former practising lawyer with many years experience of negotiating complex transactions, and previous employment as a museum director engaged in raising funds for the acquisition of pre-eminent works of art, David Wilson is well placed to offer a full, discrete and expert service to the discerning collector or instititional buyer or seller of art.
